Magnolia Electric Company

I missed Tre Orsi but I did catch several of Will Johnson's songs. He is one of my favorite solo dudes, but I do love me some Centromatic as well. Magnolia put on a great show as always. The last song was just after midnight and Jason Molina wore a mask in honor of Halloween and the band busted into Hank Williams' "Move it on Over."

Reeperbahn Bound

Farley and I are headed overseas to sell posters at Flatstock Europe 3 at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany. If you happen to be roaming around Hamburg on September 25 through 27, come on down to Spielbudenplatz and say guten tag. Many of my American co-horts will be there along with other poster artists from Europe and for just a few euros you will be able to buy limited edition posters and artwork directly from the artists.

Flatstock

Well, another Bumbershoot has come and gone and with it another Flatstock poster convention. I've been doing these things since the first one in 2002, and they are always good times. Unfortunately, I could not attend Bumbershoot this year. However, my friend Derrick who lives in Seattle was willing to operate my booth without me. What a guy! Here's a crappy phone photo by our pal Andy:

With Derrick doing Bumbershoot for me, it helps me save more $ for my trip to Germany for the Flatstock at Reeperbahn! I'm very excited to be going there. Here's a little more about the poster show.

The Captain

Frownland

My smile is stuck
I cannot go back t' yer Frownland
My spirit's made up of the ocean
And the sky 'n the sun 'n the moon
'n all my eye can see
I cannot go back to yer land of gloom
Where black jagged shadows
Remind me of the comin' of yer doom
I want my own land
Take my hand 'n come with me
It's not too late for you
It's not too late for me
To find my homeland
Where uh man can stand by another man
Without an ego flyin'
With no man lyin'
'n no one dyin' by an earthly hand
Let the devil burn 'n the beggar learn
'n the little girls that live in those old worlds
Take my kind hand
My smile is stuck
I cannot go back t' yer Frownland

Thank gawd for Don Van Vliet.

Dutch artist Bert Simmons has come up with a
cool technique for making realistic life-size replicas of people's heads out of paper... and I'm jealous.

Roky Erickson

I'm very excited to make a poster for one of my musical heros and an Austin legend. This is a photo of the actual poster so the colors are a little funky.

Two Amazing Videos

I love Will Oldham, AKA Bonnie Prince Billy, and his song "The Seedling." Here's the video which is equally awesome:

And Bjork, who is known for her ambitous videos, has a new one for her song "Wanderlust." It takes a while to load but its a trip:

The Mars Volta

Had a chance to watch The Mars Volta at the Austin Music Hall last night and they were nutz. Jared Connor did the poster and took the photo of Cedric about to jump off a stack of amps and break at least a few of the many bones in his feet.

ARTSPLOSION erupts

So after a long hiatus from any contact with my old site, I decided to throw it all in the crapper and start this here blog. It may seem like a regressive move, but trust me, it is revolutionary! Just offering you these words is way beyond what I was capable with my old site. As purty as it was, it was a bitch to update. Take note of the linx list to the right, one of them is to my flickr account, where you can view a ton of stuff I've created over the years. I will eventually have paypal functionality in some fashion, but if you see a print or poster you like send me an email and I'll let you know if it is available for purchase.

And slowly I will customize this thing so that it won't be so damn boring to look at. Until then, rest assured I will be posting all kinds of nonsense in here and I hope you enjoy it.
